The Knockoff

This book had me absolutely cracking up! I received an early review copy of The Knock Off by Lucy Sykes and Jo Piazza from my local library’s summer reading program. (You should check out yours and see if they do cool events like that). This book is almost a modern day The Devil Wears Prada, which is one of my favorite books! It is a scandalous look into fashion, working on a magazine, and the powerful people of New York.

Imogen Tate is finally back from her sabbatical, she had breast cancer, and now she’s ready to take over her magazine, Glossy, again. When she comes back, though, everything has changed. First of all, her former assistant Eve, is now running the magazine. Second, her magazine is no more- it’s now an app. AN APP! For Imogen, that’s like turning one of your favorite books into a C list movie. She has very little knowledge about apps, twitter, Facebook, and all the other social networking sites that her new boss wants her to be hip to.

It’s not like Eve is a very good boss anyway, she is demanding, requiring people to stay over night to work on the app. She is sneaky, stealing Imogen’s idea. She is a millennial who doesn’t understand that not everything needs to be INSTANT and RIGHT NOW. To Eve, Imogen is a dinosaur who has the mentality of a two year old. Of course, Imogen is going crazy because she doesn’t remember Eve ever being this rude, condescending and evil, but she has to work with her, to get the app off the ground.

While Imogen is trying her best to prove Eve wrong, Eve is doing whatever she can to sabotage Imogen’s talent, and name. This book is ferocious, hilarious and a juicy guilty pleasure.

This book gets 5 out of 5 stars from me. I loved every second of it, and I was rooting for Imogen to take down Eve the entire time. As you read more and more about the behind the scenes of Eve’s world, you will want to take her down as well.

If you are looking for a fun, over the top look into the fashion world- this is your book!
