Mermaid Moon by Colleen Coble is the second book in the Sunset Cove series. Though, you could actually read this book as a stand alone, reading the first one makes a couple of things more clear and you can follow the story that much better. I read the first one, and I really liked it. This one was good, but I have to say that I enjoyed the first one a little bit more. You may find it different though, if you read this book. There are so many awesome ways that this book throws you, it’s easy to get hooked.

When Mallory gets a call from her father, who says some really cryptic words and then winds up dead, Mallory goes on a search to find out what happened to her dad. Mallory doesn’t want to believe that her dad died of a heart attack on his boat, it just doesn’t make sense. She thinks that he was murdered, and she goes to Mermaid Point to figure out the mystery surrounding his strange death.

Then, Mallory starts to receive death threats of her own, now she’s pissed and terrified. In the midst of this mystery, she starts to gain feelings for her long lost love Kevin, who is a little bit uneasy about getting back together with Mallory. The mix between love and murder in this book are just perfect.

The characters from the first book are back in this book as side characters, but I felt that at times there were just too many characters, and too many ways that the characters knew each other so it got a bit confusing. Other than that I really liked this story, the fact that Colleen can create such intricate story lines just proves how well she can write. I can’t wait until the third book in this series is available. I think I definitely have a new favorite author!

Another thing that I find really great about this book is that it is Christian fiction but it is not sopping with words about the Bible or God or anything like that. There are just little hints here and there, so it’s not overwhelming. I give this book 4 out of 5 stars, a great read.
