I was fascinated by the synopsis of this book. A recovering alcoholic steps into the spotlight just in time for a terrifying accident to be caught on camera. in The Newsmakers by Lis Wiehl and Sebastian Stuart, the news may not be all that it seems when newly divorced, recovering alcoholic, and mother Erica Sparks steps into the spotlight for her first day on the job at GNN.
Erica was recently fired from another job due to on air intoxication, so when she lands a job at GNN it’s a dream come true. Soon she gets the biggest news story when she encounters a huge accident, and gets it all on camera. Then things start to get a little weird, and it seems like wherever Erica’s stories take her, bigger problems start to happen. This can’t all be coincidence, and soon she may found out that what is in front of the camera may not always be the entire truth.
This book was really fast paced, and the chapters were short which made it a delight to read. The only thing that bothered me was that Erica didn’t necessarily seem like a real person to me. She seemed more like a superhero, and it was just hard to believe her character. I didn’t like that she ALWAYS knew what to do and say in certain situations, and it felt more fantasy to me than a story about a real news anchor. (Yes, this is a fiction book, I just wish that the character had been more down to earth and real). Other than that I really liked the plot of this book. It was weird, scary at times, suspenseful and all together a really thrilling ride. I give this book 4 out of 5 stars. I received this book from Book Look Bloggers.
