Growing up in a house full of people, you would think that the home would be filled with love and laughter. That wasn’t the case for Nicki in the book Little Miss Somebody by Christy Lynn Abram. Her house was filled with drug addicted family members, cousins she had to take care of, and a mother who was never really around for her, and never showed her any type of love.
Nicki takes it upon herself to find a better life, and she decides she’s going to do that by searching for the father that was never there for her. Anything has to be better than the home life she deals with now. Now she has to figure out where to look for him, and how to get to him and get away from the hell that she is living. Nicki begins a journey to seek out the love she has never felt in her life, and at fourteen years old she’s going to risk it all and take a huge step into finally being happy.
One of the reasons that I really enjoyed this book, was because it was based on a true story. Plus, it was written from Nicki’s point of view, and we really got a sense of the pain and anguish that she was feeling. My heart hurt for her, and knowing that at fourteen, she had to make some very tough decisions was heart breaking! I give this book 4 out of 5 stars. It had a lot of moments that gave me goosebumps, and the writing was really spot on.
