A Night of Great Joy by Mary Engelbreit is a beautifully illustrated and craftily written kids book about the first Christmas. This story is a little different, as it is told through a children’s Christmas pageant, and it is filled with so much heart, creativity and purity that my child and I fell in love with it as soon as we flipped open the first page.
Even just looking at the cover of this book you will fall in love, it sparkles and the characters are all so different and perfect for their roles. Not only that, but inside, you will see the illustrations on each page perfectly demonstrate what is going on in the play, as well as the first Christmas. When emotions run wild, you will see that in the characters faces, and when the props in the play come to life, it’s truly a magical experience.
I have read many books about the first Christmas, and this one is definitely going on my favorites list. I had such a blast reading this, and will continue to keep it on my bookshelf for years to come. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars, a wonderfully spirited Christmas tradition for sure. I received this book from Blogging for Books.
