The Leftover

Being on a reality show wasn’t Megan’s dream, that was her sisters, but when things come up, you do what you have to do for your family. That’s why Megan is being whisked away from civilization to star in a local Survivor like show, in The Leftover by Brooke Williams.

Like me, Megan is shy, and a homebody. You can typically find her with her head cast downward, which doesn’t make her the perfect candidate for a show about surviving the wilderness. As a favor to her sister who just found out she’s pregnant, Megan goes on the trek anyway.

Then there’s Cane. Who is a medic for the show, he’s had a decent break up, so his head isn’t really in the game. He wants to feel like a new man, but keeps getting roped back into the relationship he just got out of. He’s hoping that his time away from his ex will give him the clarity that he needs to move on.

I bet you are guessing where this book is going. The awkward girl and the hot guy meet cute and all the things happen, then they fall in love. You are correct. This is a sweet story, a romantic comedy if you will. I did enjoy it, but also felt like it was a little overdone, nothing super spectacular happens but it’s a good read for the summer. I felt that this story was lacking a lot of details, and originality. Though, the romance was quite adorable.

I give this one 3 out of 5 stars. I feel like I’ve read this story before, and it didn’t make me all that excited to read this one. It’s a good book to read on a summer’s night, but theres no real depth to it. Thank you to the author for sending me this book.
