I Have Never

I Have Never is a comical chick lit novel, by one of my favorite contemporary authors, Camilla Isley. Camilla has the ability to create such rich and original characters, and also she puts them in such uncomfortable situations that implement character growth, and the reader can ultimately learn from the stories that she writes, even when we think we are just reading a sweet love story.

Even though she is having one hell of a year, Blair teaches us to laugh at ourselves. This book cracked me up, as Camilla’s stories typically do. I loved how charming and clever Blair was, even after losing her job and her boyfriend all in the same day. She’s down in the dumps, and ready to find new meaning in the life that she has lived so carefully. Her entire life has been meticulously thought out, and rules have been applied to every aspect. Now that she has some free time on her hands, she decides that life lived by rules maybe isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be, and her rule book should be tossed out the window to bring on new and exciting adventures. When she lets go of her inhibitions, she realizes that she is enjoying the experiences that she thought would never happen to her.

We all live our lives by rules whether we write them down, like Blair, or not. I know I totally live my life a certain way, and what would happen if I reversed my thinking like Blair? It would be scary, but it’s possible that I could even start to enjoy some of the things I was so afraid of.

This book was quite fun to read, an definitely keeps with the Camilla Isley that I know and love. One thing that needs a little tweaking in my opinion, is that Camilla should do more research if she is going to write about a certain area. Blair lives in New Jersey, but if you are from NJ or have even heard about it, you know that people don’t pump their own gas in that state, but Blair was definitely doing that and breaking the law. Other than that, this book was incredible, so much fun to read, and I can’t wait to see what’s next in this series. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars, thank you to Camilla for sending it to me!
