Are you ready for a funny, clever, well written and out of the ordinary book this holiday season? If you answered yes, then Zenka by Alison Brodie is something that you are going to want to get your hands on. I was honestly not expecting the story to turn out the way that it did. At times it was comical, other times it was action-packed, but in the end, it was a beautiful story with meaning, even though there’s a mob boss associated with it all.
Zenka is a Hungarian nightclub dancer who really just wants to get mob boss Jack reunited with his long-lost son, Nicholas. So, when Zenka decides to pose as a cleaner and try to get Nicholas to see his father, she’s not looking to fall in love or to turn Nicholas from a puppy dog into a pit bull, but both of those things happen so what can she do?
I honestly went into this book expecting one thing and came out of it completely surprised. After reading Alison’s book Break Failure, I thought it was interesting that she would take on such a seemingly dark book-but it’s actually not at all. Picture a bad ass action movie mixed with a Seth Rogen/James Franco production, and Zenka is your girl.
Alison has a way of creating three-dimensional characters that you grow to care about, even if they aren’t the most loveable people. Her books have cracked me up, and I love that she has such a witty sense of humor. You really get a feel for the people that she creates, and their stories melt you and keep you entertained. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars, it was a real joy to read.
