Freya was once a famous Youtube singer, but ever since she lost her voice, she can’t seem to find herself anywhere, anymore. Fate brings her close to two other people who feel like they have lost their way as well, one day in New York. In I Have Lost My Way by Gayle Forman, unexpected friends emerge from strangers, and a bond that never ends begins to form.
Freya can’t handle the stress anymore, so she leaves her mother to handle her manager on her own, walking through the park, she stumbles and falls directly onto someone, that someone being Nathaniel, a boy who has lost everything and doesn’t really care what happens to him. The witness to this, Harun, has just lost the love of his life, and feels as alone as ever.
While taking Nathaniel to the hospital, the three strangers become closer, and through out their day in New York, we watch them learn how to love again, feel again, and find their way again. This story is very simple, sweet, and heartbreaking all at once.
Gayle Forman does a wonderful job of coming up with backstories for her characters that pull at your heart and make you want to jump into the book and give them a hug, she also has simple yet substantial plots that keep the reader hooked, at least I was. I really had a good time reading this book. You’ll wish you were a part of this friendship, too. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars, wonderful YA that talks about serious topics but gives you everything you want in a book for young adults.
